The Mother of Us All

RDO was thrilled to present the opera "The Mother Of Us All" — the story of Susan B. Anthony's campaign for women's suffrage by American composer Virgil Thomson — in May 2025. Thomson collaborated with librettist Gertrude Stein, who brought historical figures such as John Adams, Lilian Russell, Ulysses S. Grant and others into the story.

Together, Thomson and Stein created a uniquely American work of music theater, which RDO was fortunate to present at the historic Woman’s Club of Minneapolis
